The ‘5-8 People Deep’ Strategy: Unlocking the Real Value in Your Network
I never really believed in networking, up until I was in my mid thirties.
I was a “direct response” marketing guy.
Until…
I was sitting in Fiji on holidays, and realised a large percentageof my best clients actually came to me through my networks.
Except it wasn’t meeting with someone at a seminar…
And then calling them the next day…
And selling them something.
It was a longer game than that.
It was meeting one person, who connected me with another person, who
connected me with another person…
And in the majority of cases, it was 5-8 people deep when I tracked it back…
Then as if out of nowhere, I landed a six figure client.
Richard Koch, in his book the 80/20 manager, refers to this as the power
of “loose connections.”
And that is why platforms like Linkedin is so powerful, when you look beyond views and likes…
And play the long game, by getting to know people at a deeper level.
