Hi… I’m Scott Bywater.
I never planned to be a “copywriter”, yet it was the perfect fit after all the crazy and interesting things I did in my late teens and early twenties.
See, from the age of 17 I travelled around the country doing every sales job imaginable, from door to door sales in Sydney after leaving home on a train from Coffs Harbour in the middle of the night when my parents were on holiday in Fiji (sorry mum and dad)
To cold call outbound telemarketing in Sydney, Melbourne, Christchurch, Auckland and Brisbane… followed by inbound sales, call centre training and face to face sales.
During this time, I also did some crazy and interesting things including joining 2 cults, living as a hippy in Byron Bay, and doing a strange fast that will make me sound crazy if I mention it here (ask me about that when we chat 🙂
I also stumbled across a seminar by Jay Abraham, and was instantly hooked on direct marketing.
Then one day, my now wife saw a career ad in the newspaper and said, "you have to reply to that” - and my career as a copywriter began:
After a meeting with the marketing manager at Readers Digest, I didn’t get the job but did get the confidence. I decide to specialise in this area and my income soars almost instantly.
I dive into study, rewriting ads and sales letters in my own handwriting to take my skills to the next level.
My First Book
I write my first book, Cashflow Advertising, and get married to my beautiful wife.
My Son Is Born
The most incredible day of my life arrives, when my son is born.
Long Term Client
I begin writing and split-testing headlines for one of the largest online natural health companies in the USA. They remain a client to this day.
I gain a reputation in the events space and begin working with almost every big name in Australia.
More Time at the Beach
My paid newsletter and mastermind group, More Time at the Beach, is born. it ends up having hundreds of subscribers and continues for four years.
Big name in events
I begin working closely with one of the biggest names in the events space in Australia, a relationship that lasts over a decade.
$500,000+ in 7 days
I write a launch campaign for Bodytrim which generates in excess of $500,000 in 7 days.
The technology curve.
I spend my evenings upgrading my digital marketing skills to stay on track with the technology curve.
I join Perry Marshall’s US$25,000 a year mastermind and rub shoulders with some of the smartest marketers in the USA.
6 figure launches
I run 6 x 6 figure launches for a company in the fitness space, using my “launch to funnel” formula.
I start a group training copywriters, to help them hone their skills.
I hone my research chops, learning the art of buyer personas.
I join the Foundation of a grammar school, as Vice President.
I create Elite Marketers, arguably the savviest group of marketers in Australia.
I speak on stage at James Schramko’s Super Fast Business event.
